🌟 Cultural Capital at Petteril Bank Primary School
Welcome to our Cultural Capital curriculum page! At Petteril Bank Primary School, we believe that every child deserves access to rich and varied experiences that broaden their horizons, deepen their understanding of the world, and prepare them for life beyond school.
🎓 What is Cultural Capital?
Cultural capital refers to the essential knowledge, skills, and experiences that children need to succeed in life. It includes:
- Exposure to arts, music, literature, and heritage
- Understanding of social norms, values, and traditions
- Opportunities to explore careers, communities, and global cultures
Our curriculum is designed to build cultural capital through meaningful learning and enrichment activities.
📚 Our Curriculum Approach
We embed cultural capital across all subjects and phases, ensuring:
- A broad and balanced curriculum that reflects diverse perspectives
- Opportunities for pupils to engage with high-quality texts, performances, and creative projects
- Visits, visitors, and experiences that connect learning to the wider world
We use the KAPOW Primary Curriculum to support this approach, integrating cultural capital into subjects such as PSHE, History, Art, Music, and Geography.
🌍 Enrichment and Experiences
We enhance cultural capital through:
- Educational visits to museums, galleries, theatres, and heritage sites
- Celebrations of cultural festivals and themed curriculum days
- Links with local organisations and global communities
- Opportunities to perform, present, and participate in creative arts
🏡 Supporting Cultural Capital at Home
Parents can help build cultural capital by:
- Reading widely and discussing books, news, and ideas
- Visiting local places of interest and engaging in community events
- Encouraging curiosity about different cultures, languages, and traditions
- Supporting hobbies and interests that develop creativity and confidence
