Our Teacher is Miss Mellor

What class do you teach/work in?

I currently teach the Year 5 class at Petteril Bank School.

How long have you worked at Petteril Bank Primary School?

I began my time at Petteril Bank as a Year 3 teacher during the Autumn term of 2021.

What would the children be surprised to find out about you?

I come from an agricultural family and spent my childhood surrounded by our animals, including sheep and horses. I consider myself fortunate to have travelled extensively around the world, and I can proudly say that I have even had the opportunity to ride an elephant and shake a crocodiles hand!

What makes a ‘good’ day at Petteril Bank Primary School?

Most days at Petteril Bank are rewarding, but the standout moments are when a child shares their achievements with me, eager for me to celebrate their success together.

What is the best thing about being a teacher?

For me, the most fulfilling aspect of being a teacher is witnessing a student work diligently to reach their goals and the gratifying smile they offer upon achieving them.

What wisdom would you pass on to the children in your class?

If I could impart any wisdom to the children at our school, it would be my grandfather’s (very Yorkshire) saying that “Those who do nowt, get nowt wrong.” Essentially, this means that you can only fail if you are not trying. It is far better to attempt something and potentially fail than to shy away from trying altogether.

Things to remember:

  • PE days . Please wear PE kits to school on these days.
  • Water bottles, these can be filled up in school during the day.
  • Practise TTRS as often as you can.
  • Make sure you read 5 times a week. This will help you ‘be the best you can be’
