Our Teacher is Mr Jordan

What Year Group do you teach?

I am the Year 6 teacher at Petteril Bank School.

How long have you worked at Petteril Bank?

This is my second year at the school however, I’ve been teaching for a long time.

What would the children be surprised to find out about you?

I was born in Carlisle and grew up in Silloth. In my adult life, I have had the privilege of travelling, living and working all over the world in the USA, Egypt, China, Singapore and The Netherlands. I have seen and experienced many things such as finding previously unclimbed routes up mountains in Spain, Faluka rides on the river Nile at sunset whilst listening to the Adhan, exploring unknown pyramids (there are a lot of them in Egypt), walking along the Great Wall of China, sitting with wild Orangutans in the jungles of Sumatra, standing on the edge of an active volcano, cormorant fishing on the Li river, eating Durian fruit (yuk!), scuba diving to shipwrecks, swimming with Whale sharks and many, many more wonderful memories.

What makes a ‘good’ day at Petteril Bank Primary School?

A ‘good day’ at Petteril Bank School is a fun day where everything goes as planned without incident. Everyone follows our well-rehearsed key values of being respectful, responsible and resilient. When everyone in school is working hard to be ‘the best that they can be’.

What is the best thing about being a teacher?

We’re in the magic weaving business, so the best thing about being a teacher (apart from holidays) are those little wins. The difference a tiny improvement can make over time is astounding. If you make a 1% improvement each day, by the end of the year you’ll be 37 times better than when you started. This applies itself to all aspects of school life, from learning habits to behavioural traits.

What wisdom would you pass on to the children in your class?

Things to remember:

  • PE days . Please wear PE kits to school on these days.
  • Water bottles, these can be filled up in school during the day.
  • Practise TTRS as often as you can.
  • Make sure you read 5 times a week. This will help you ‘be the best you can be’
